Parents & Caregivers

Providing support and resources to parents and caregivers.

Are you concerned about your child’s development? Do you have questions about whether they are hitting their developmental milestones? Developmental milestones serve to give parents a timeline of sorts for skill progression in infants and toddlers. It is important for parents to remember that children learn and develop differently, and there is a range for hitting these milestones. Some children walk and talk later than others and do not need any assistance other than additional time to hit their milestone. However, some children need Early Intervention services to help as they build these essential skills.

Parents traditionally serve as the first to flag a potential need for intervention, noting where their child is not “on target” in a key area such as motor skills or language and social skills. Parents who are concerned that their child is not hitting their developmental milestones in one of these areas should have their child assessed by a professional to determine if they are in need of assistance to promote key developmental skill.

Receiving a referral for an assessment and evaluation is the first step. We encourage parents and caregivers to reach out to their pediatrician to perform a basic developmental screening in their office to determine if the child should be referred for a full evaluation. Progressus Therapy is available to help parents who are concerned their child may be facing a developmental delay as they begin to explore and address their child’s needs. If you have any questions or are unsure of what to ask your pediatrician, let us know. We can provide you with some key questions to ask and help guide you through the process.
